Where R-12 stands
CFC (Class I ODS)
New production has been banned in the United States since 1996 under the Montreal Protocol CFC phaseout. All remaining supply is reclaimed or pre-ban stock. Recovered R-12 remains legal to use in existing equipment and is valuable buyback feedstock.
